SYDNEY, Australia - It was a downhill day on Asian bourses on Friday, with all the major indices losing ground.
The extent of losses however was not significant, given that U.S. stocks overnight made solid gains, with the Dow adding around 470 points.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 69.01 points or 0.39% on Friday to 17,749.71.
The Australian All Ords slipped 81.80 points or 1.58% to 5,106.90.
China's Shanghai Composite dipped 16.65 points or 0.60% to 2,763.99.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng lost 43.95 points or 0.19% to 23,236.11.
The U.S. dollar consolidated its gains of a day earlier, with some upward drift on Friday. Around the Sydney close the euro was changing hands at 1.0843. The British pound fell to 1.2382.
The Japanese yen eased to 107.90, while the Swiss franc fell to 0.9739.
The Canadian dollar was little changed at 1.4169. The Australian dollar added a few points to 0.6069. The New Zealand dollar was unchanged at 0.5913.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was ahead 469.93 points, or 2.24%, at 21,413.44.
The Standard and Poor's rose 56.4 points, or 2.28%, to 2,526.9.
The tech-laden Nasdaq Composite climbed 126.73 points, or 1.72%, to 7,487.31.
