WASHINGTON D.C.: A member of the championship Louisiana State University women's basketball team fainted this week during a White House event to honor the team.
Medical personnel were subsequently rushed to assist the basketball player in the East Room of the White House.
U.S. President Joe Biden was calling for year-round support for women's sports when the player, freshman Sa'Myah Smith, feinted and was helped off the stage.
"It is a lot of standing. I apologize. It is okay. It has happened lots of times," Biden said.
As personnel wheeled Smith out, Coach Kim Mulkey said that Smith was better.
"Sa'myah is fine. She does not want to leave. She wants to stand with us, but she needs to be checked out," Mulkey said.
Biden later received the men's champions from the University of Connecticut.
"Whenever the nation's been down, what's brought us back? Sports. Thank God we are not down, yet but you guys are something else," Biden said.
