JACKSONVILLEJaguars experts Frank Frangie, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens are breaking down the Jaguars as the 2025 NFL season approaches; today: A look at quarterbackTrevor Lawrenceentering the 2025 season
Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars
What I want to see from quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2025:I think Lawrence is poised to take the next step. I would like to see those numbers improve 20-plus touchdowns, single-digit interceptions, well over 3,000 yards. But more than numbers, I think this fifth year will be a good one. I want to see him emerge as a top 10 quarterback. I think he will.
Brent Martineau, Action Sports Jax Sports Director
What I want to see from quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2025:Iwould like to see a healthy and very productive season for Lawrence. There's a lot of belief in Jacksonville in Lawrence despite the roller-coaster four seasons. The main thing is to stay healthy and play the entire season. It should be reasonable to expect career-best numbers for Lawrence in touchdowns (25), yards (4,113) and completion percentage (66.3). If Lawrence delivers those things, the Jaguars should have a chance to make the postseason in December.

What I want to see from quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2025:This season has a pivotal feel for Lawrence, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft and the Jaguars' starting quarterback the past four seasons. Head Coach Liam Coen made clear upon his January hiring that the new regime is absolutely building around Lawrence, so the Jaguars need to absolutely see clear evidence that Lawrence is grasping and improving in Coen's offensive scheme. This is a scheme in which footwork and timing is key for the quarterback, and coaches recently said Lawrence made dramatic strides in those areas during the offseason program. Is he making clear, quick decisions? Does he look confident in the pocket and in his drops? Those are areas to watch early. Lawrence, after quarterbacking the Jaguars to 14 victories in 17 games from December 2022 to December 2023, has played through injuries and has missed eight of the Jaguars' last 19 games after never missing an NFL start before that. He first must remain healthy and then show by season's end he is beginning to flourish in Coen's system for this to be a successful season for the fifth-year veteran.

What I want to see from quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2025:I want to see Lawrence avoid the mistakes that cost the Jaguars and him personally in 2024. The game in Philadelphia last November provides an example of each. In the middle of the second quarter, he took off running from the pocket and inexplicably dove headfirst in front of linebacker Zach Baun and took a vicious shot to his left shoulder. He should have slid feet first and avoided contact. Instead he missed the next three weeks and eventually the remainder of the season. Later, with the Jaguars trailing 28-23, thanks to a furious rally after being down 22-8, Lawrence had the offense in position to take the lead and potentially pull off the upset victory. But on first-and-10 at the Eagles 13-yard line with 1:42 remaining, he made a disastrous decision. Tight end Evan Engram was covered and so was wide receiverBrian Thomas Jr., but instead of throwing it out of bounds and living to fight on second down, he opted to throw to third-string running back D'Ernest Johnson. He was intercepted by linebacker Nakobe Dean, ending the game. Lawrence is a very talented quarterback but unless and until he stops making those kinds of mistakes, he's not going to elevate his team to a playoff level.

What I want to see from quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2025:A firm grasp of the new offense, with improved techniques leading him to increased productivity. I would also like to see him healthy for a whole season. Learning a new offense is not easy. However, from all accounts he has handled the terminology well. The footwork was a work in progress this offseason. And outside of some general soreness, he was healthy throughout.
Kainani Stevens, Jaguars Team Reporter
What I want to see from quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2025:I would like to see Lawrence take over as the true leader of the team. He has been the face of the franchise for some time, but now entering his fifth NFL season, there are higher expectations for him on the field. Lawrence enters this season healthy, with a new stable of weapons and a refreshed offensive line. The time is now for No. 16.
